The Problem Genome Project (PGP) was a predecessor to the Today Lab. It was designed to collect and make accessible basic information from top experts on important problems (such as the Grand Challenges in engineering or the Millennium Development Goals). The idea came from seeing aspiring entrepreneurs (often but not exclusively students) repeat the same entry-level research on the problem areas that interested them. Having this information ready at the outset of their work could help them get on with the more interesting questions much faster. In 2014, this project evolved into the Today Lab project, which takes a different approach to solving this problem.
